“Understanding the fine points of a language”
Contrary to popular beliefs, a translator’s most important skill is the ability to write well in his or her mother tongue so that the message in the source language can be naturally and accurately transposed into the target language. Knowledge of the source language and its culture is also an important criterion.
It is by working and living in a country that a translator is able to absorb its culture and understand the fine points of a language. Translators living abroad must read constantly in their mother tongue (literature, press, etc.) to keep their language up-to-date.
I am interested in a wide variety of subjects in both English and French. I know many experts in their field who can help me when needed.
In the world of translation today, technology holds an important place. Knowing and using IT tools is essential.
